SMTPing 1.3.0.33 has been released!

There was a bug in the updates checker that made the "update now" dialog ignore the latest version number (even though the files were successfully updated). This release fixes that error and forces the updates checker to properly handle the version number.

SNMP extension updated!

We've fixed an issue on the MIBDIRS path that, in some cases, prevented the proper load of SMTPing's MIB files.

And considering the hotfix we previously released, we packed those changes among with the ones for this extension, so you download a single package.

Remember: the SNMP extension can work on SMTPing starting as of version 1.3 and is targeted to our retail users, so, if you want to give it a try and didn't update SMTPing to 1.3, please do so before grabbing this file!

You can download it from our Downloads page.

Hotfix for retail WASP & PhpDock distros released

We've recently discovered an error that prevented the migration from SQLite to MySQL on the WASP distro. We're releasing this hotfix to solve it and let you successfully jump to a stronger and faster database.

We'd like to thank David Stokes for helping us discovering this problem.

The details:

Fixed issues when changing database engine (SQLite --> MySQL or viceversa) from the configuration window. It wasn't saving the new preferences and it remained stuck in the middle of the migration.

Removed MySQL info fields from the configuration/Application Settings page on the PhpDock distro (they're useless because of the nature of the distro).

Warning! Do not download this hotfix unless you have version 1.3 installed!

Please pick your file:

Critical update (1.2.3 Rev.20) released!

A few mins after releasing the previous update (1.2.2.19), we received an email from a user of the WASP distro that told us he discovered a bug in the setup/updates package since the first public release: PyCron's "crontab.txt" file wasn't being updated after running the setup or update file!

This problem caused SMTPing's PyCron to not update the nodes on every heartbeat. You may have not been victim of this bug because it seems to be related to some update on Windows 7 we weren't able to identify.

Anyway, we've rebuilt the setup packages and put that fix on them and released them a few minutes ago.

Please download and apply this update!

SMTPing 1.2.2 Revision 19 is available now :)

We've uploaded a maintenance release that didn't change SMTPing's main version digits for one simple reason: SMTPing's core components didn't change.

We've improved the Inno Setup scripts for all packages. Those users to reinstall the whole package instead of just updating will not get the core scripts updates.

This update is not critical or mandatory, so if you don't have the time to update right now, don't sweat about it :)

New flavor released: PhpDock for stand-alone usage

We've previously released SMTPing 1.2 without posting it to our news feed, specially because we've been asked by a couple of users to have a less demanding trial version. And since we always listen to our users, we took the time to work on it.

So we published the PhpDock distro of SMTPing!

This distro comes with a licensed version of NuSphere PhpDock. It suits users that don't need to share the Dashboard over the LAN. It installs no services, has a smaller memory footprint and works seamlessly on Windows.

If you don't need the complexity of the WASP distro, then PhpDock is for you!

Things that were fixed/enhanced on both distros:

(Bug Report) Fixed an error in config files that caused a "PHP Express not installed" message on the dashboard.

Basic Template: Changed google fonts settings to local to prevent external downloads.

Basic Template: Removed link to changelog.txt file from certain headers (no longer used)

Item/Group Stats reports: implemented functionality over port based monitoring.

► Download SMTPing now!

Release 1.1 is available for download!

We've been working on SMTPing before its launch on Bits Du Jour... and a few mins ago we've released the first minor version post-launching our network monitor :)

So, we've fixed an error in the group editor caused by items with the same name being added.

But that wasn't all: we also added forced reloading from the groups "reload" icon even when logging is stopped.

On the other hand, we've got input from a Bits Du Jour user that wanted to be able to monitor services across his LAN... and well, we couldn't resist adding the feature on SMTPing!!!

So now you can not only monitor if your nodes are up or down, you can also check if a certain service (i.e. HTTP, FTP, etc.) is responding or is dead!

We'll continue improving SMTPing, and, with some effort, adding stuff useful to our users (~_~)

SMTPing is finally released!

A foreword from SMTPing's author, Alejandro Caballero

More than four months ago I started working on a network monitoring tool made in PHP to help my team and I detect issues over a client's WAN.

What started being a simple tool became a very nice thing. When I implemented some charts showing the falls in the network connection, I decided to take some steps forward and created more complex charts and some reports.

But every respectable monitoring tool, even the free ones, do that.

What I wanted to achieve was simple: to keep all the relevant nodes of the company's WAN at first sight on a single HD flat panel, easy to read from the other wall of the room. That's how SMTPing became what it is: a single-shot display of nodes, like those displays of LEDs used to monitor switch nodes in a NOC. No scrolling, no fancy maps wasting pixels, no irrelevant information... only the basic: Is it up or is it down?

'----------------------------------- SMTPing Dashboard with the "Basic" theme ----------------------------------'

But I decided to go further than that, based on one premise: Why network monitoring tools are so flat? and then I defined the methodology in SMTPing templates to make them fully themable with jQuery UI.

'------------------------------------------ SMTPing UI Scheme selector -----------------------------------------'

SMTPing was made using LAVA Softworks' resources and time, off-hours, working over the nights and weekends. That's why it took almost 4 months to be completed.

I've added a lot of stuff to the original tiny network monitor. I've built a WASP frame around it and made the installer for everyone to check it out, use it for free on small environments and show a bit of appreciation to the time I've invested on it by purchasing a license upgrade for a small fee.

Feel free to check it out! You'll find it on the Downloads page. And if you get any problem, don't hesitate on posting a Help Request here at the forum!

There's a lot to do with SMTPing. You can be sure there will be updates really soon!

Regards,

Alejandro Caballero

Problems with SMTPing? Submit a support request!

As of June 2017, we moved SMTPing support to LAVA SoftWorks support system.

If you experience a problem or detect a bug, or something isn't working as expected, just open a ticket explaining what you were trying to do and, if possible, upload a screen shot. That'll help us in reproducing the problem in order to fix it.
